Choose to Change your Perspective

Updated: Nov 28, 2021

One thing I’ve learned over the last 4 years is that my circumstances do not determine my reality. It is my choice how I view, speak of and live through the trials that life brings me. You see our human eye, mind and feelings automatically focus on what we don’t have. We tend to focus on the problems, the pain, the way things simply aren’t fair or right. We see the way things should go and the way we hoped they would go and nothing in our lives fits into the ‘should have’s’ the ‘hopes’. Life is unexpected, it is stressful, unfair, painful, sad, frustrating and so much more at times. Life is both an adventure and a long and often treacherous journey.

All of this is fact…life is not easy. But another underutilized and unrecognized fact is also true… The fact that it is our choice how we choose to walk through these times, this life.

ITS OUR CHOICE. WE CHOOSE OUR PERSPECTIVE.

I could easily say, I’m 41, single, have no children and don’t have a home of my own. All of those things are true. They are facts in my life at the moment. But the difference is that I have chosen to change my perspective and see my life the way God does. Because this is also true…I am 41 and I’m not in an unhappy marriage and I’ve never experienced divorce, I don’t have the financial burden of paying rent or owning a home and because of this I have the freedom to live in other places and travel the world. Because of my lifestyle, I can spend copious amounts of time with my family and friends that matter most to me. I do have a family of my own and my family extends around the world! Because I don’t have a physical home I am able to call home wherever I am. I am 41 and have the freedom to live my life as a glorious adventure!

Perspective changes everything. Perspective brings joy and hope even in the most uncertain circumstances. It allows me to see God’s blessings in my life no matter what life brings my way.

While God does not bring hardships and tragedies upon us, he WILL use them to change us for the better if we choose to change our perspective . If we choose to stop focusing on the problems and start focusing on the God who loves us.

Jeremiah 29:11 New Living Translation —For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

We should be like eagles soaring above our troubles. But so often we are like turkeys, just pecking on the ground never looking up beyond our circumstances and therefore, never being able to fly.

When you are feeling overwhelmed by life and so disillusioned by your circumstances choose to change your perspective because it will in turn, change your life.

Philippians 4:6-7 The Message (MSG) —Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Choose to see the good instead of just focusing on the bad. Make a list of the things in your life that are positive and good. See what you have and then look around you, around the world, and see how much you really do have. Recognize the things you are able to do for your family, friends, co-workers to help or bless them. Make a list of the things that bring you joy, peace and strength. Just in doing this practice it will begin to reshape your perspective on your circumstances. Then take a leap and DO things differently. See your life differently. Talk about your life differently. Change both your self-talk and what you say to others about your life. Go out and live your life differently. You have no idea the impact this will have on the people around you as well. They see you and your circumstances and see the way you deal with them. You can be a light and an inspiration for them. Focus on the good things in your life, which you will realize are many, when you start listing them.

Remember your circumstances do not determine your reality. Choose to change your perspective today and see your life as an Adventure. Start to look up and FLY today!
